United Nations Human Rights Council

The United Nations Humans Rights Council, also known as UNHRC, focuses on issues regarding the promotion and protection of human rights, just like the name suggests. The UNHCR consists of 47 elected member-states. This council abides by the 1984 Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The UNHRC often works closely with other UN bodies such as the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to bring justice to human rights violators.

Meet The Dais

Maya Mathur | Head Chair

Maya Mathur is a sixteen year old, born and raised between Singapore, Hong Kong and Bangkok, where she currently resides. Her MUN career began 3 years ago, and she has now attended over 15 conferences as a delegate, and a few more as a parliamentarian / chairperson. She is one of her school's MUN club leaders, and recently organised an international virtual conference.

Since April, when lockdown began here in Thailand, Maya has spent her time between university research, stressing out for her IGCSE results, interning briefly for a finance company, and pursuing her hobbies, which include cooking and catching up with her family via Zoom. She sincerely hopes that this conference is everything the delegates want it to be, and will do her utmost to achieve this, along with the rest of chairing team.

Siweon Lee | Deputy Chair

Siweon Lee is a Korean sophomore who is currently attending Logos International School in Cambodia. Siweon has attended seven conferences as a delegate, and this conference will serve as one of her first experiences as a chair. She completely understands the potential fear that some delegates may face before and during conferences, and hopes to be able to provide a fun and valuable MUN experience for all parties involved.

When not overwhelmed with things to do, she can usually be found lazing around. Occasionally, she reads. Some of her current favorite books are No Longer Human and 1Q84.

Hansika Baldwa | Associate Chair

Hello delegates! My name is Hansika Baldwa and I'm a Y12 IB student studying in St Andrews International school. I have been actively participating in MUN of over 3 years and I am delighted at the prospect of starting off my fourth year as the associate chair of the UNHRC committee at IntrcMUN.

I believe that the numerous conferences that I've participated in have developed my understanding of many of the Sustainable Development Goals set forth by the UN and it is truly inspiring to see the number of delegates learning with vigor about how to conduct diplomatic solutions to world problems. As a new chair myself, I understand the anxiousness of the newer delegates but I hope that I can help you feel more comfortable in committee sessions!

Personally, I know that MUN is one of the most engaging and rigorous activities to participate in and has played a huge role in developing my communication and debate skills. Apart from MUN debates I spend my time binge watching Netflix series and re reading my favorite books and procrastinating :) Anyways, I look forward to meeting you all for a fun debate!

Youngju Wi | Associate Chair

Youngju Wi is a 17 years old senior at CIA FIRST international school. Allowing her to experience various cultures and to gain an international perspective, she was born and raised in South Korea but has lived in China, Laos, as well as Cambodia, where she is currently residing. Having such an environment, global issues has always been her interest, which led to beginning her MUN journey as a delegate. She has been to 4 conferences for the past two years and it is her utmost pleasure to serve as a deputy chair for the first time in IntrcMUN. Outside MUN, she is a swimmer and a Harry Potter fanatic.
